A Visit from the Fire Department

Today Brooklynn's school had a visit from the local fire department. All through the month of October they will be learning about various community helpers. Brooklynn really enjoyed the firefighters visit! She loved exploring all the equipment and the fire truck. After the visit they made really cute firefighter hats in their classroom.

Mommies, Margaritas, and Movies...Oh My!

Friday night I had a much needed Mom's Night Out with some of my "mommy" friends. We had some great Mexican food and some even better margaritas! Afterwards we went to Megan's house to watch a chick flick, Crossroads (yes, the one with Britney Spears! It's a good movie, I don't care what they say!). I had a great time and I can't wait for us to do it again!

Grandparent's Day Celebration

Today was Grandparent's Day at Brooklynn's preschool. Both sets of Brookie's grandparents live out of state. However, we are so fortunate to have a wonderful person to fill in on days like today. Mrs. Van is a close family friend and actually used to babysit Hendersohn when he was little. Since we moved to Texas she has been there for us and Brookie. We're so blessed to have her. Here are some pics from the class celebration.

Looks like we don't do nap time!

Brooklynn is really enjoying her new preschool. She's learning a lot, making new friends, sharing and playing nice, singing songs, creating cute art projects, etc. However, when it comes to nap time we're having some issues. Yesterday, I stopped by her classroom on my way out of the building to see all the children laying quietly on their mats. The only child not laying on their mat was mine. This was because she was standing and dancing on her nap mat. I was speechless. All I could do was grab her, her nap mat, and take her home ( nap is the last activity of the day). Needless to say there was no objection from her teachers. :) On our way home Brooklynn and I had a discussion about laying down on our mat and how nap time was quiet time. So today I was hopeful that we would at least lay down quietly even if we didn't nap. Well, when I picked Brooklynn up today her teacher informed me that Brooklynn spent the whole nap time telling the other children to "shoosh and lay down!". Clearly our conversation didn't go exactly the way I had hoped but at least she took something from it.

Brooklynn's First Day at the Spanish Schoolhouse

Let me start by saying that yesterday was a day that both Brooklynn and I had been waiting for. It was her first day of preschool! :) After numerous run throughs with the nap mat, trial runs with the thermos, labeling, packing, and books about the joys of preschool we were ready to go! Despite having a hard time waking up yesterday morning (my child is not an early riser) the morning got started off great with lots of hugs, kisses, breakfast, primping from mom, and a little play time with Dad. There were no tears when we dropped her off and she was very excited about her classroom. We had already met her teachers so she was familiar with them and happy to see them. They said she had a wonderful day. When I picked her up I could tell she had not only enjoyed herself but was comfortable there, which provides a wonderful feeling for a parent. Once Brookie got in the car she immediately starting telling me something in which the only part I could understand was "dos". I didn't realize that I would have to brush up on my Spanish so early in the school year! As a treat for being such a great little preschooler mom treated Brooklynn to her favorite smoothie on the way home. Needless to say, Brooklynn slept like baby last night from a full day.

A little play time with Dad before we left for school.

My Little Shopper

Brooklynn has become quite the little grocery shopper lately. Thanks to the kiddie shopping carts at our local store, Brooklynn has developed a love for grocery shopping. It's not exactly the type of shopping I thought she'd inherit from me (I despise grocery shopping) but it's shopping none the less! Here are some pics from a late night run to the store last night (yes, she's in her pajamas!).

Park Fun!

This morning's weather was perfect for an outing to the playground! As you can see Brooklynn enjoyed herself.
