Even though I voted early, I still took part in all of the election day excitement! Numerous businesses offered freebies for election day and I managed to take advantage of most of them! :) Although Brooklynn is too young to know what's going on I wanted to make today fun and memorable for her. So after school we met up with some friends and enjoyed some "Election Day" cupcakes and went to the party store and got some red-white-blue balloons and a really cute hat for Brooklynn (that mommy turned into an "Obama '08" hat). After dinner we got some "Election Day" ice cream and partied like our last names were Obama! Ultimately Brooklynn couldn't hang past 8:00 for all the election night fun but I'm hoping she'll look back on pictures of today and smile! And for the record, I think I gained 5 lbs today!!!!! :)

Today is a day I will recall for my children and their children. This was one of the most historic days of my lifetime and I feel so blessed to have been a part of it. I am so full of emotions, pride, and encouragement. After I voted last week I sat in my car and cried. Many will never understand my tears and others identify with my tears because they shed their own.
Over the past few hours I have cheered, prayed, cried, and smiled. I have looked over my sleeping daughter and thought of what this day means for her. Although I will ensure she knows of the decades of struggle, effort, and sacrifices that it took to come to this historic day, she will ultimately be a part of a country her ancestors only dreamed of. I am completely overwhelmed with emotions. It's a new dawn, it's a new day!
